Utility Companies Aim to Restore Power Thursday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): It could be will be Thursday before power is restored to all homes and businesses following icy weather across northern Indiana.

Electric utilities reported at least 15,000 outages Tuesday evening scattered across the northern third of the state, a day after freezing rain and high winds took down trees and power lines.

More than 1,500 remain without power in Steuben County near Fremont and Angola.

The heaviest concentration of outages was in the South Bend area, where Indiana Michigan Power says some 5,000 outages remained and that some might not be restored until Thursday night.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. says crews were making progress and that more than two-thirds of the 29,000 outages it had Monday evening were fixed.
