US Marshals Warn of Fort Wayne Phone Scam

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The US Marshals Service is warning the public about a phone scam making the rounds in and around Fort Wayne.

They say people posing as Marshals are calling people and telling them that they missed jury duty, and to avoid jail time they need to pay a fine, typically by giving the caller their banking information. If the caller falls for it, they could have their bank accounts emptied and their identity stolen.

The Marshals Service says they never collect money over the phone, and that if you receive a call like this, hang up, then contact the Marshals' office at 260-423-4667.
