UPDATE:Man Accidentally Shoots Himself Near YMCA

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man was grazed by a bullet Monday morning after accidentally shooting himself while in the locker room at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA.

 

The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne released the following statement in regards to the incident:

 

This morning, April 7, there was an incident at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA. A person had a small hand gun in a gym bag. The gun accidentally discharged and grazed the chin of the person in possession of the gun. 911 was called and our staff immediately provided care. The incident was isolated in the area of the locker room.

The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne has a long history of providing a safe environment for our members and the community to enjoy. Our current policies prohibit carrying or concealing a weapon or any object that may be used as a weapon in our facilities and on our grounds. These policies and procedures are in place in order to provide a safe environment. We will evaluate our policies in order to ensure a continued safe environment.

We will investigate the incident thoroughly and are cooperating with the local authorities in their investigation.
