UPDATED: Man Dies After Early Morning Moped Crash

Monday morning update: The Allen County Coroner's Office has identified the man who died in a moped accident Saturday morning.

40 year old Douglas Fisher II of Fort Wayne was on West Dupont Road at about 6 in the morning when he left the roadway and crashed near the intersection with Oak Trail Road.

The autopsy report states that Fisher died from a medical event prior to the accident and not as a result of injuries in the wreck.

Our earlier story…

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Just after 6 a.m. Saturday, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of W. Dupont Rd. and Oak Trail Rd. on a report of an injury accident involving a moped.

Officers located an adult male in critical condition and performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived, who transported the male to a local hospital where he later died. Police say it appears the moped was eastbound on W. Dupont Rd., and for an undetermined reason, left the south side of the roadway, and crashed into the grass just west of this intersection. It is currently being investigated whether drugs, alcohol, or a medical condition contributed to this accident, or if the rider lost control.

The victim was the only rider of the moped. A helmet was found near him, but it is currently unknown if he was wearing it at the time of crash.
