UPDATED: Dems Blast Pence’s Funding

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Democrats continue to hammer Governor Mike Pence’s policies.

Jody Zody, Chairman of the Indiana Democrat Party, accuses the governor of reverting millions of dollars of operating funds from state departments and agencies to create a surplus. In a statement released today, Zody says it puts children at risk.

He cited “bare-minimum funding” to the Department of Child Services, despite significant increases in child abuse and neglect around the state.

Mary Beth Bonaventura, the Director of DCS, responded to the claims. She says DCS is adding 100 case managers and addressing the concerns. In a statement she said:

“Lawsuits are distractions from the essential efforts underway to help children in need. Our commitment to Hoosier children is genuine and resolute, and we are 100 percent engaged in hiring more caseworkers and increasing training opportunities as directed by Governor Pence and the 2015 General Assembly.”

“By July 27, we will have hired all of the newly-created positions for our 100 Family Case Managers and their training will then commence immediately. DCS is working diligently to bring help and hope to children affected by the tragedy of child abuse.”
