UPDATE: Standoff in South Whitley Ends With a Man in Handcuffs

SOUTH WHITLEY, Ind. (WOWO): A standoff in South Whitley, leads to two school lock-downs and ends with a man in custody.


During the Wednesday afternoon standoff, South Whitley Elementary School and Whitko High School were placed on perimeter lock-downs as Whitley County police were dealing with a man who took off after a traffic stop. The suspect went into a building near Carol's Corner Restaurant at N. State and W. Columbia Streets.


Police went into the building and the suspect surrendered.


Meanwhile, Whitco Community Schools Superintendent Steve Clason told WOWO news that South Whitley Elementary School and Whitko High School were dismissed as usual, however, walkers had to be picked up by a parent.


According to our partners in news at 21 Alive, the suspect was wanted for having an outstanding warrant.
