UPDATE: One Critically Injured in Crash Involving IPFW Police Vehicle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Fort Wayne Police responded to the intersection of Stellhorn Road and Woodway Drive, near Reed Road, after reports of a vehicle accident with injury.

Once on the scene, officers found two vehicles involved; a car and an unmarked IPFW police vehicle. Officials say the driver of the car was pinned inside his vehicle for about 20 minutes before fire crews could free him. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The IPFW officer was transported from the scene and said to be in serious but stable condition at a local hospital. Neither vehicle was carrying any passengers.

Police say the driver of the car pulled into the path of the IPFW officer’s vehicle. Stellhorn Road was shut down for approximately two hours before investigators were able to clear one lane for westbound traffic and one lane for eastbound traffic.

This incident remains under investigation.
