PAOLI, Ind. (AP) – State Police say a southern Indiana woman's estranged husband opened fire on their two children, killing their 3-year-old daughter and critically wounding their 6-year-old son.
Sgt. Phillip Hensley says 37-year-old Jeremy Gehl and 33-year-old Melissa Randolph were estranged but still living together in Paoli when a Tuesday evening fight escalated into bloodshed.
Hensley says Gehl stabbed Randolph in the couple's home about 40 miles south of Bloomington, leaving her with non-life-threatening wounds.
He says Gehl then shot the children when they came downstairs after hearing the fight. Gehl then took his own life.
The 3-year-old girl was later pronounced dead at a Louisville, Kentucky, hospital, and Hensley says her 6-year-old brother remained in critical condition early Wednesday.
He says a toddler in the home was unharmed during the attacks.
