UPDATE: I&M Reports 95% Of Power Restored



FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): After restoring service to more than 30,000 customers within 62 hours after a strong, unexpected storm hit Fort Wayne on Saturday, Indiana Michigan Power utility crews and contractors continue to work to restore power.

I&M says crews are discovering additional damaged poles as they address individual outages, extending time needed to safely restore power. So far, crews have identified 81 broken poles and an additional 72 poles with damaged equipment; additional pole damage may be discovered.

 

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, crews continued work to restore power to 1,750 customers who lost service in the storm. More than 300 employees of I&M, other utilities and contractors remain committed to the restoration effort.

 

I&M successfully met its goal of restoring 95 percent of customers who lost power in the storm before midnight Monday. Nearly 200 separate outages remain – many affecting a single customer. After finding more extensive damage to our facilities, I&M is extending the restoration times to 98 percent restored by 11:59 p.m. tonight and complete restoration to no later than 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.
