University of Evansville Campus to Become Smoke-Free

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – The University of Evansville campus will become smoke-free starting Aug. 1.

The Evansville Courier and Press reports that the school's campus-wide tobacco-free policy bans all tobacco products. That includes smoked, smokeless and electronic cigarettes. They will be forbidden at all buildings, athletic facilities, parking areas and all campus events and functions.

Before the ban smoking was allowed within 10 feet of building entrances and 25 feet from campus dormitories. New signs will notify visitors and campus regulars of the new policy.

There won't be fines but students may receive disciplinary action and staff or faculty will face consequences from supervisors.

Campus officials are asking everyone to help enforce the new policy.
