FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): United Auto Workers members at the General Motors plant in Fort Wayne have approved a new four year contract with GM.
But the agreement remains tentative, as other plants around the country continue to vote on the agreement. UAW workers in Fort Wayne voted 1,839 to 1,311 in favor of the deal. Fort Wayne produces GM pickup trucks.
UAW spokesman Brian Rothenberg says over half of the GM plants around the country have cast their votes for the agreement, and they're hoping to have voting all wrapped up by Saturday.
Among the features of the new deal include an eight year path for workers hired after 2007 to reach top pay. Some skilled-trade workers oppose the deal because it cuts them out of a $60,000 early retirement incentive.
