Two FWCS Were Among The 10 Winners Of The State’s Constitution Day Contest

Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David will visit New Tech Academy at Wayne High School and Northcrest Elementary School Wednesday, Sept. 19, to celebrate winners of the Courts in the Classroom Constitution Day Contest.

The contest was held to honor Constitution Day, which is celebrated each year on Sept. 17, the day the U.S. Constitution was signed in 1787. To participate in the contest, teachers in grades 4-12 were invited to write a brief statement on why he or she wanted a justice to visit his or her classroom and what type of activity the justice would participate in with the class.

Statewide, 10 winners were chosen. At New Tech, 9100 Winchester Road, Justice David will speak to students in teacher Riley Johnson’s AP Government class from 9:20-10:10 a.m. Justice David will then visit Northcrest, 5301 Archwood Lane, to speak to Dave Yarde’s fourth-grade class from 11 a.m.-noon. Justice David will talk to students about the Constitution, the rights of citizens, the Judicial branch of government and cases that have come before the Supreme Court.
