Two adults, four children dead in Logansport fire

LOGANSPORT, Ind. (Network Indiana): A fire in Logansport early Wednesday morning trapped six people inside the house, likely killing them.

That includes four children, said the Cass County Sheriff.

A deputy on the scene told Mitchell Kirk with the Logansport Pharos Tribune that based on information from the family, they believed the people were still inside the house, which is on Pottawatomie Rd. Two adults were able to escape.

The first fire call came in at 1:45 a.m., reported the Tribune. A sheriff’s deputy said he and a fellow officer climbed up to the second story and broke windows trying to get inside, but the flames and smoke were too much.

The deputy said he did not hear smoke alarms when he was trying to get inside.

The house collapsed at around 5 a.m. The sheriff confirmed that one of the children who died was two months old. They ranged in age from two months to ten years old. One of the adults may have been a parent.
