Trooper not injured in collision with train

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP): An Indiana State Trooper's car collided with a train near Muncie, but the officer wasn't hurt.

A state police news release says Master Trooper Dave Haines collided with a Norfolk Southern train on a track on the Muncie Bypass Friday afternoon.

Police say Haines was looking at his car computer before he saw a westbound train was entering his side of the road. Haines couldn't stop before his car hit the locomotive's engine, but the train was able to stop.

Haines was returning to his district following training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at Plainfield.

Police say the road was blocked for about an hour to remove the car and get the train rolling.

Trooper N.W. Campbell tells The Star Press that alcohol and drugs were not a factor.
