Three school referendums coming up on May 3rd, and infant mortality in the talks again with Karen Francisco

Karen Francisco is the Editorial Page Editor of the  Journal Gazette and joined Charly Butcher on “Fort Wayne’s Morning News” to talk about this Sunday’s issue which features editorial endorsements on Sunday, beginning with an endorsement of three school referendums on May 3 — at Fort Wayne Community Schools, Southwest Allen County Schools and Southern Wells.  School referendums are the new reality for Indiana school districts because of property tax reform instituted in 2008.

They also have an article by a Fort Wayne neonatologist who writes about the black infant mortality rate in Allen County. It is the highest in the state — 19.5 deaths per 1,000 births. That compares to a national rate of 11.3 and an Indiana statewide rate of 12.9.  Allen County’s rate is higher than both Marion County and Lake County.
