Three hurt when street race ends up damaging Fort Wayne home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Three people were badly hurt when a race led to a car careening into a house Sunday night.

The Fort Wayne Police Department says they were called to a home on S. Clinton Street near South Side High School shortly before 7pm to find three people: a female driver, a female passenger and a male passenger, suffering major injuries and trapped in a vehicle that had hit a house.

It took crews forty minutes to free the driver, while they were also dealing with a natural gas leak due to the car knocking a gas meter off the house.

Witnesses say the car was involved in a race with a pickup truck just before the crash but couldn’t negotiate the curve at Packard Avenue and ended up going airborne.

Police are investigating.
