This Winter Season, Save Money on Your Heating Bill

INDIANA, (WOWO): With the cold weather here to stay, Indiana Michigan Power has released a few tips to help you save money this winter season.

They suggest you have your furnace and duct-work inspected annually. The utility estimates that broken duct-work accounts for as much 35 percent of a home's energy loss. They also say to change furnace filters each month. Caulk, seal and weatherstrip openings from your home to the outside and increase your attic insulation if the joists are showing.

In addition, unless it is equipped specifically for home heating, use your fireplace sparingly, as warm air escapes through the chimney. And when you're not using the fireplace, close the damper.
