The Rescue Mission Bracing for Frigid Temperatures

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Rescue Mission is bracing for the frigid cold temperatures as the majority of the WOWO listening area will be under a Wind Chill Warning as of 10:00 p.m., Tuesday evening and it will not expire until 12:00 p.m., Thursday.

With high temperatures in the teens and overnight temperatures well below zero, Rev. Donovan Coley, CEO and Senior Pastor at The Rescue Mission says they are getting ready for an influx of homeless men.

Believe it or not, many in our area are sleeping on the streets, in stairwells or vehicles, abandoned houses and tents. It’s especially dangerous this time of year because of exposure to frigid temperatures and wet weather. We want people to know that there is an alternative. When temperatures are this extreme we don't turn anyone away due to space issues. We will fill every square inch of this building if necessary,” said Coley.

With recent developments in the weather, The Rescue Mission’s staff is preparing for Tuesday night's numbers to climb to over 100 men.
