The Landing Project in downtown Fort Wayne to be developed by The Model Group

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The city of Fort Wayne hopes The Landing will become the art district of downtown once the development of housing, businesses and entertainment areas is complete.

The Model Group will develop the project, Mayor Tom Henry and the Fort Wayne Downtown Development Trust announced Wednesday.

There will be 110,000 square feet available for housing, retail and entertainment space. The city of Fort Wayne obtained seven buildings and two parking lots to be rehabilitated as part of the project.

The Model Group is a Cincinnati based company that specializes in reviving urban neighborhoods.

Downtown Development Trust officials and The Model Group are working together to finalize an agreement.

City leaders hope work on The Landing could begin later this year.
