FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – The Historic Old Fort that is the namesake for the Summit City is getting a bit of a makeover.
Construction crews are putting a new roof on the landmark buildings.
“This is a project that will help the Fort go on for another generation or more,” board member Tom Grant says. “It’s going to preserve the buildings, it’s going to allow us to maintain programing and be the fort that’s in Fort Wayne.”
The Old Fort is a replica of the original Fort Wayne built by Maj. John Whistler in 1816. The replica opened July 4, 1976, in celebration of the United States bicentennial.
It will cost about $55,000 to $60,000, according to a press release. Those funds coming from general donations, possible grants and corporate sponsorships, Grant says.
