TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – A 9-year-old Terre Haute boy has received the title of honorary police officer after alerting his parents to a man who was trying to harm his little sister.
Perry Edington Jr. was honored Tuesday night at the Terre Haute Police Department. Police Chief John Plasse awarded the boy with his own police badge and identification card.
The (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/1GKlA1b ) reports Perry was living with his sister and mother at a local motel in April 2014 when a convicted sex offender grabbed his sister and attempted to molest her. Although he only was 8 at the time, Perry realized his sister was in danger and quickly alerted adults, resulting in his sister's rescue.
The man was arrested and sentenced to 114 years in prison.
