COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Prosecutors are recommending a 16-year prison sentence for a 17-year-old boy who fatally shot a 14-year-old girl in central Ohio last year.
Prosecutors said Thursday that the teen is expected to plead guilty in adult court to involuntary manslaughter with a gun specification and tampering with evidence in the death of Amanda Kirwin.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1NXQKbo) reports that Kirwin was fatally shot in Columbus on Aug. 11, 2014, by the boy, who was 16 at the time. Prosecutors say Kirwin was not the intended target of the shooting.
The teen agreed there was probable cause to charge him, which shifted the case from juvenile court to adult court for prosecution.
