Suspect in Domestic Barricade Situation Escapes Police

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man who was the subject of a six hour barricade situation Sunday morning apparently has evaded arrest.

Residents in the Lakes of Buckingham neighborhood near State and Maplecrest were evacuated at about 5:30 AM Sunday after officials responded to a domestic battery situation on the 2900 block of Cutter Cove.

When police arrived, a man opened the garage door and quickly retreated inside when he saw police. Dispatch was able to contact a woman inside the home and was able to get her and two children to leave the residence.

The Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team was called to the home just before 7 AM to try to get the male suspect, who may have had access to firearms, out of the residence. After about four hours and failing to get the suspect out of the residence, officers used a flash bang and tear gas to try to get the man out.

The man did not appear and when officers went into the home at about 11:15 AM, the suspect was nowhere to be found. Officers were able to recover several firearms.

The incident remains under investigation and no other information is available.
