Suspect in Deadly 2013 Shooting Being Released

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Prosecutors have dropped charges against an 18-year-old man arrested in connection with what police called the gang-related shooting of a 16-year-old youth after a July 4 fireworks show in downtown Indianapolis last year.

Court records filed Friday say charges were dismissed against Eron Bonner “due to evidentiary problems.''

Bonner had been facing a felony murder charge and a charge of firearm possession by a serious violent felon, and a criminal gang sentence enhancement could have doubled his sentence if he had been found guilty.

Monquize Edwards was shot outside the Circle Centre mall after the city's downtown fireworks show ended. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead there.

A judge has signed an order to release Bonner from custody.
