Stutzman Responds to Jobless Numbers

WASHINGTON (WOWO): New figures released this morning show U.S. unemployment at its lowest level since July, 2008.

About 248 thousand jobs were added in September, dropping the jobless rate to 5.9 percent, but 3rd District U.S. Representative Marlin Stutzman isn't celebrating the report.

The Republican Congressman says “the Obama economy has been limping along” and “out of control spending and an increase in federal regulations do not promote growth.”

In a statement released this morning, he said there are still more than 90 million Americans looking for jobs. Meanwhile, others who do have jobs are struggling to pay their bills, provide for their families or save.

Here's the statement:

U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued this statement following the release of September’s job numbers.

“While I am pleased the economy added jobs in September, I remain deeply concerned for those who are still looking for work. Right now over 90 million Americans are not participating in the labor force. And many of those who are working are finding it increasingly harder to pay their bills, provide for their families, or save for the future. While the Obama economy has been limping along, it has become clear that out of control spending and an increase in federal regulations do not promote growth.

“Over the past year, we in the House have been busy passing much needed legislation that would cut taxes, roll back costly regulations, and develop sound energy policies that would promote growth and create jobs. Unfortunately, many of these bills are stuck in the Senate.

“The American people deserve an economic environment that will provide them with opportunities to succeed. Going forward, I am hopeful the White House and Senate will put politics aside and work with the House to provide solutions to many of the issues we face.”
