Stutzman Releases Statement on President’s Executive Action on Immigration

Washington, D.C. (WOWO): Indiana 3rd District Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued the following statement Thursday afternoon, ahead of President Obama’s presumed announcement to pursue executive action on immigration.

By taking executive action and refusing to work with a new Congress, President Obama has willingly chosen to ignore the voices of American voters and is setting a dangerous precedent for future administrations. Our Founders created a system of checks and balances so that no one branch of government could overstep its power. While we are a nation of immigrants, we are also a country that believes in the rule of law.

The President’s actions are nothing more than a blatant disregard for the Constitution. It is this type of action that fosters distrust among public officials, and adds to the toxicity of Washington. The American people want both parties to work together and find ways to solve our problems. President Obama should sit down with members of Congress so that we can find areas of common ground and fix our broken immigration system.”
