Storms causing power outages in local areas

7:00 p.m. update:  I&M reports around 20,000 people in Indiana are still without power.  Spokesperson Tracy Warner says the Fort Wayne area was largely spared and affected around 500 customers in total.

 

So far the Indiana counties with the largest power outages include:

St. Joseph County: 17,000
LaPorte County: 1,700
Allen County: 500
Marshall County: 400
Elkhart County: 300

He notes that because of the extent of damage, numerous customers are expected to remain without service throughout the night, and possibly for an extended period.

Michigan still has around 11,000 customers without power, and include:

Berrien County: 9,000
St. Joseph County: 1,500
Van Buren County: 500

 

Estimated times of restoration for remaining customers are expected to be announced Tuesday. Customers are encouraged to sign up for I&M On The Go Mobile Alerts at www.indianamichiganpower.com/alerts

 

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  A line of storms that moved through northern Indiana has left many without power.

As of 5:45 p.m., 19,734 I&M customers are without power with nearly 17,000 of those being located in St. Joseph County.

In Allen County, around 337 customers near W. Jefferson Blvd. & Getz are without power.  There’s also 137 customers without power along a stretch of Ellison Rd. in Aboite.  No restoration time has been set yet.

Meanwhile, Kosciusko REMC reports between 1500 and 1800 customers in the northern part of the county are without power due to high winds, lightening and fallen trees. They have crews working to restore power.
