State Park Near Lafayette Opening New Water Park

BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (AP) _ Indiana’s youngest state park is opening up new water park that officials hope will help draw more visitors.

Prophetstown State Park’s aquatic center is opening Monday after a dedication ceremony that is to include remarks from Gov. Mike Pence. The park near the Tippecanoe County town of Battle Ground covers about 3,000 acres and opened in 2004.

The new aquatic center includes a tube slide, lazy river float, zero-entry pool, bathhouse and concession area.

The park is named for a Native American village that was destroyed after Indians were defeated in a nearby 1811 battle against troops led by Indiana Territory Gov. William Henry Harrison in the area a few miles north of Lafayette.
