INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Hospitals and medical facilities are supposed to be a safe place to recover after surgery and serious medical conditions. But a new report from the Indiana Department of Health shows some serious concerns.
A total of 100 incidents were reported at 289 centers around the state. The most common issue is stage three or four pressure ulcers, commonly called bed sores.
There were also 30 reports of foreign objects left after surgery, 15 procedures on the wrong body part and 14 falls that resulted in death or injury.
Officials say the report is a reminder and a wake up call that medical errors are serious and preventable.
