State Gives Schools Two More Days for Part of ISTEP

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The State Board of Education is giving Indiana schools more days to administer the multiple choice portion of the ISTEP exams.

The board approved the extra days Wednesday. Schools wanted the extra time to better prepare students because frigid temperatures and heavy snowfalls have forced repeated closures.

The Indianapolis Star reports the testing window for the electronic portion of ISTEP is now April 28 through May 13. The paper-and-pencil version of the test can be given April 28 through May 9.

Indiana Department of Education Director of Student Assessment Michele Walker says the additional testing days will delay the calculation of ISTEP results by five days to May 30.

The board voted last month to approve extending the ISTEP's applied skills portion from March 3 until March 21.
