State Announces Shovel-Ready Site in Steuben County

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Indiana has announced the creation of more shovel-ready sites and one of them is in Steuben County.

In a statement Tuesday, Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann, announced five additional sites, including the Fremont Industrial Site. The 150-acre area is located just west of Fremont on State Road 120 near Vistula Park.

Ellsperman will attend a kickoff event Friday in Fremont.

“Progress throughout Indiana depends on communities taking proactive steps to demonstrate they are ready and committed to cultivating economic development opportunities in their communities,” Ellspermann said in a statement.

“I encourage new businesses looking to invest in Indiana to consider these locations that are primed and ready for partnerships and investments that will certainly contribute to furthering Indiana’s economic opportunities and growth in the near future.”

There are now 94 similar sites around the state that are prepped and ready for companies to begin construction. Its administered by Indiana's Office for Rural and Community Affairs.

A site is declared “Shovel Ready” upon filling out an application and determining if the site has a base level of defined boundaries with a clear title, an established price, demonstration of executive level local government support, defined utility capacity and undergone an environmental assessment.
