Stand-off suspect evades police arrest in northeast Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A barricade situation in northeast Fort Wayne ended with no one in custody.

Just after noon Thursday, a man reportedly barricaded himself in a home after someone called 911.  The caller said the suspect detonated some type of firework and threw it at the neighbor.  They also noted the suspect had a knife.

When police made it to the house, they were told he retreated into his residence.  About four hours later, police used pepper gas went into the home but found no-one inside. Police say he was able to escape before the first officer arrived on the scene.

There were no hostages or no injuries.  It's unknown what the status of the suspect is at this time.

Haley and Croninger schools nearby were on lockout for a short time. Student drop-offs at those schools as well as Snider High and Lane Elementary were affected.
