Stadium Plans in Elkhart on Hold

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) _ Plans for building a baseball stadium at the former site of a large farmers market in northern Indiana remains on hold while financing is sought.

The project for just south of Elkhart was first announced in June 2013, but the developer says he remains optimistic about getting the stadium built and bringing an independent or summer collegiate baseball team to the city.

Craig Wallin tells The Elkhart Truth he's had to be more patient than he wished while working to lineup money for the stadium. He plans to build it at the former American Countryside Farmers Market along the U.S. 20 bypass. The market closed in 2010.

Wallin says it is unlikely the stadium would be ready for use during the 2015 baseball season.
