JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A southern Indiana man has pleaded guilty to theft charges for stealing $100,000 from a now-defunct Jaycees organization while serving as its treasurer.
Forty-nine-year-old Keith Sellmer of Jeffersonville was charged in April with 15 felony counts each of forgery and theft. He pleaded guilty Monday in a Clark County courtroom to three misdemeanor theft counts.
The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1k7Kroy ) prosecutors said Sellmer wrote checks in the Jeffersonville Jaycees' name and cashed them for his own personal use, including paying for nursing school and medical expenses.
Defense attorney Larry Wilder says Sellmer has returned $80,000 of the total $100,000 to the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, which will likely use the money for scholarships.
Sellmer's plea deal calls for him to pay back the full $100,000.
