Southern Indiana County Sues Former Auditor

SPENCER, Ind. (AP): A southern Indiana county is suing its former auditor, seeking nearly $1.2 million stemming from what the suit calls “acts of malfeasance.”
Former Owen County Auditor Angie Lawson has not been charged, but her attorney says Lawson is the subject of an FBI investigation.
The suit names Lawson, her husband, Larry Lawson, along with her 15 aliases, as defendants. It's seeking the recovery of $1.18 million in public funds, or three times the $400,000 found missing from county coffers so far by an ongoing State Board of Accounts audit.
Indiana law allows for triple damages in civil cases involving misuse of public funds.
The county's alleges Lawson's “acts of malfeasance” led to the illegal diversion of public funds. She was fired as chief deputy auditor in August.
