SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): Businesses with offices in South Bend's tallest building are eager to see the new owner's plans to make repairs to the 25-story tower.
The court-appointed receiver who has overseen Chase Tower for the past three years was relieved of those duties on Tuesday as New York-based Washington Square Realty took over. Washington Square bought the tower out of foreclosure last month for $4.5 million.
Brent Sheppard is president of an insurance software firm with 16 employees in the tower. He tells the South Bend Tribune he believes the new ownership is positive, but he's waiting for concrete plans on repairs.
The tower's troubles have included balky elevators and crumbling concrete in the parking garage
Property manager Andrew Nemeth says Washington Square is busy working on the ownership transition.
