South Bend Sets December Low-Snow Mark

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – December's snowfall in South Bend was one for the record books but in a way that many wouldn't expect.

The National Weather Service says the 0.2 inches of snow that fell last month in the northern Indiana city was the lowest December total on record. It broke the old record of 0.5 inches set more than a century ago, in December 1912.

The weather service says that while a trace of snow fell on 10 days, measurable snow fell on just one day during the month, tying the record for the fewest number of days with measurable snowfall in December at South Bend. December 1912 and December 1931 also both had a single day of measurable snowfall.
