South Bend School District Joins Central Time Push

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ A northern Indiana school district has become the latest member of a coalition seeking to put Indiana in the Central time zone out of concerns about children waiting for buses in the dark.

The Goshen School Board voted Monday to add Goshen Community Schools to the Central Time Coalition’s list of more than 40 Indiana school systems that support observing Central Standard Time in Indiana during the winter and Central Daylight Time the rest of the year.

The Elkhart Truth reports that a resolution passed by the Goshen School Board says more morning sunlight would benefit “learning readiness.”

Most of Indiana is now on Eastern time, but parts of the state in the Chicago and Evansville areas observe Central time.
