South Bend Cubs to Expand Field

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ The owner of minor league baseball's South Bend Cubs says he's planning new developments at the team's field.

Andrew Berlin said Wednesday that a second floor and party deck will be added at Four Winds Field, adding almost 200 seats. The $250,000 project should be done by opening day next year.

Berlin also says he's been meeting with developers about building shops, restaurants and 140 apartments. He didn't give cost or timeline information for that project. The city reached an agreement with Berlin in July for an option to sell him nearly 4 acres next to the stadium for $1 if he wants it before the end of next year.

The team sold a record nearly 350,000 tickets this past season. The previous franchise record was nearly 260,000 in 2014.
