Skateboarder Back Home After Severe Head Injury

VAN BUREN, Ind. (AP): A northeastern Indiana teenager is back home recovering after suffering severe head injuries when he fell from his skateboard while holding onto the back of a friend's moving car.

Doctors removed much of 16-year-old Randon Timmons' skull because of brain swelling after he was injured June 8 in the Grant County town of Van Buren. Timmons spent time in a Fort Wayne rehabilitation hospital to improve walking and other skills before he returned home a couple weeks ago.

Dr. Walter Jacobsen tells WTHR-TV that Timmons' brain activity was “almost gone” and that his quick recovery is miraculous.

Randy Timmons says his son's progress has been “mind-boggling,” although he must wear a protective helmet and faces surgery to rebuild his skull.
