FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Firefighters had to rescue six people and three kittens from a house fire in southeast Fort Wayne this morning.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department says they were called to a home on Weisser Park Avenue a couple of blocks northwest of Weisser Park Elementary School at 5:45 a.m. Friday.

When they arrived they found four people trapped on the roof of the porch. Two more victims were found inside a first-floor bedroom.

After rescuing them, they also found three kittens in the home before bringing the fire under control about 45 minutes after arrival.

One person was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
