Six People Injured in Six-Vehicle Crash

GRANT COUNTY, Ind (WOWO): Six people are injured after a 6-vehicle pileup yesterday afternoon. Just after 3:30P.M., Indiana State Police responded to the six-car crash on I-69 near the 268 mile marker.

73-year-old Stephen Knox, was driving northbound on I-69 near the 268 mile marker, when he was stopped for a traffic backup and was hit from behind by 26-year-old Mark Knepp, who was driving a van.  The van was then pushed into the back of a car being rear-ended by another car driven by 20-year-old Joshua Forbes.

According to police, 25-year-old Timothy Yates, tried to drive between two of the vehicles, but all 3 all three went into a median.

One of the cars was driven by 31-year-old Richard Reid and the other was driven by 42-year-old Roy Roberts.

Bethany Brandenburger, 9, and Alex Brandenburger, 11, were both flown from the crash to the hospital. They both sustained a head injury and Alex suffered a possible broken leg.

Richard Lengacher, 37, and Nancy Brandenburger, age unknown were both transported by ambulance to a local Hospital.

Yates and his passenger, Kirsten Smith, 23, were also transported by ambulance to the hospital and Nancy Brandenburger and Smith are both pregnant.

According to police, there were no indications that the women were injured bad enough to hurt their fetuses.

This is an ongoing investigation, but according to police neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics are expected to be involved.
