Six Notre Dame football players were arrested in two separate incidents.

Five players were arrested during a traffic stop in Fulton County. It happened just after 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, according to ABC 57.

Ashton White, Max Redfield, Kevin Stepherson Jr., Dexter Williams, and Te’Von Coney were stopped by an Indiana State Trooper due to speeding, ABC 57 reported.

The trooper smelled marijuana and, after confirming with his narcotics detecting police dog, officers searched the vehicle and found marijuana and a loaded handgun, ABC 57 reported.

All five players were charged with possession of marijuana. Redfield, Stepherson Jr., and Williams are also being charged with possession of a handgun without a license, ABC 57reported.

In a separate incident, Notre Dame senior cornerback Devin Butler was arrested on preliminary charges of battery against an officer and resisting arrest, according to Notre Dame’s student newspaper, The Observer.

The arrest happened around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Linebacker Lounge on South Bend Avenue, near the Notre Dame campus, The Observer reported.

Paul Browne, Vice President for Public Affairs and Communications at Notre Dame, released the following statement, regarding the arrests:

“Any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university. The university will determine if additional sanctions should apply to any or all of the students charged.”
