Sister Frustrated By Response To Missing Priest

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The sister of a Roman Catholic priest from Indianapolis missing in Greece says she is frustrated by the way the State Department reacted to her brother’s disappearance, saying a U.S. embassy official in Athens asked if her brother and his translator “might have gone off together.”

Nadia Charcap of Franklin says her brother, the Rev. Christiaan Kappes, wouldn’t have called his family to say he feared for his life if he didn’t think he was in danger. Charcap said Kappes feared he might be in danger from his translator’s relatives.

Charcap said her brother wired his family money after telling them someone was trying to hack into his bank account.

The Athens News reports the American embassy said it is working with the Greek authorities to find Kappes.
