Sheriff: Missing Evansville Woman Was Held Captive

MOUNT VERNON, Ind. (AP) _ Two people are being held on preliminary charges of rape and criminal confinement after a man rescued an Evansville woman who had been missing nearly two months.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports a 37-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were arrested early Sunday after the 30-year-old woman was rescued from a mobile home in Stewartsville, about 25 miles northwest of Evansville. She had been missing since July 9.

Posey County Sheriff Greg Oeth says the woman was held under terrible conditions.

The mother of the woman who had been missing told The Associated Press her daughter is home and doing OK. The mother wouldn't talk about the conditions in which her daughter had been held.

The Associated Press does not generally identify alleged victims of sexual assault.
