Service Academy Day Announced

FORT WAYNE (WOWO): Students interested in attended Service Academies will have a opportunity to learn more in an event hosted at Fort Wayne’s Air National Guard base on Ferguson Road.

Service Academy Day is set for Saturday, April 19. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with presentations beginning at 10 a.m.

Parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are also invited to attend.

According to a press release from Congressman Marlin Stutzman:

Students interested in learning about the process and prerequisites for applying for nominations to the Air Force, Merchant Marine, West Point, Naval, and Coast Guard Academies are welcome to attend.

Candidates for admission must be U.S. citizens, have secured a nomination from a nominating authority (with the exception of the Coast Guard), be unmarried and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents. They cannot have turned 23 by July 1 of the year they enter the academy.

In applying for a nomination from Congressman Stutzman, candidates must be residents f Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District and submit an application packet that includes their completed application form with a recent photo, three letters of recommendation, SAT or ACT scores, an official copy of their high school transcript, and an essay.

Applications are due November 1, 2014 for graduating year 2015. Printable applications can be found at http://Stutzman.House.gov/pages/academy-nominations.

Note: Attendees may enter the base via the security entrance just east of the airport. Each attendee must RSVP with contact information, driver’s license number, and date of birth by April 17, 2014.
