FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A proposal to turn Smith Field in Fort Wayne into the National Airmail Museum is one step closer to taking flight.

The US Senate has approved the Federal Aviation Administration’s five-year reauthorization bill, which also established Smith Field as the museum’s site.

The House already passed the bill, and now it’s up to President Trump to sign into law. The Journal Gazette reports after that, it’ll be up to support from the public, as the bill prohibits using federal funds for the $2.5-million proposal that would impact Hangar 2.

Republicans Congressman Jim Banks and Senator Todd Young have publicly supported the idea.
