Semi Truck Driver Would Get House Arrest Under Crash Deal

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ A Wisconsin trucker who caused a crash that killed two people would live under house arrest and be barred from driving if an Indiana judge accepts a plea agreement.

Truck driver Scott A. Saunders pleaded guilty Wednesday in Allen County Court to reckless homicide and criminal recklessness. The Journal Gazette reports that 51-year-old Saunders of Kenosha, Wisconsin, caused a six-vehicle crash near New Haven in January 2013 when he failed to slow down at an intersection and rear-ended a line of vehicles.

Under the agreement, Saunders would be sentenced to one year in prison and six years on probation. He would spend the first three years under home detention and wouldn't be allowed to drive during that time.

Saunders is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
