INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ State Police say a tractor-trailer hauling 38,000 pounds of pork careened off a highway and plowed into a vacant Indianapolis home after its driver swerved to avoid an animal.
State Trooper Karl West tells The Indianapolis Star the truck’s driver wasn’t injured in Thursday’s accident and the house his truck crashed into was unoccupied.
The driver told police the 5 a.m. Thursday accident happened when he lost control of his truck after swerving to avoid hitting a small animal in the middle of Interstate 65.
His truck hit two trees and a fence on its way down an embankment before crashing into the house, which sustained heavy damage.
A health inspector was expected to inspect the truck’s pork cargo to determine if it can be salvaged.
