INDIANAPOLIS -Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson is encouraging Hoosiers to begin saving at least $10 a week to commemorate America Saves Week 2013 (February 25-March 2) – a program designed to kick-start families and individuals thinking about budgeting strategies and its impact on their financial future.
“I encourage Hoosiers to start small, think big, to build a strong financial footing for tomorrow” said Secretary of State Connie Lawson. “Begin a pattern of saving today by trying to put aside $10 a week. Whether for your retirement, an emergency fund, or future tuition bills, starting today is the most important step.”
Secretary Lawson placed a series of “Conversation Starters” designed to help families foster an ongoing dialogue about budgeting, saving, investing and avoiding scams and fraud on her website. The series of open-ended questions are intended for those just starting out as newlyweds, entering retirement or anyone looking to talk about the often-difficult issue of money.
“The more families can communicate about their finances, the better they will be in the long run,” said Indiana Securities Commissioner Chris Naylor, a leader on the North American Securities Administrators Association Board of Directors. “Individuals must remain mindful of their spending behaviors and continually educate themselves on how to be financially stable.”
America Saves Week is a nation-wide effort coordinated by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council. Over 750 organizations nationwide, including the Indiana Secretary of State’s offices have joined together to promote America Saves Week.
